How would one respond to a terrorist?

Under the light of current events, let us focus on the story below:

A bunch of terrorists barge into a 5-star hotel at one of the most crowded tourist spots in the financial spinal cord of a tolerant (Oh! I mean it) country. They breach the security as if there did not exist any. Rifling, literally, their way through the lobby they force the guests (all rich and some foreigners too) as hostages and lock them on one of the top floors. Owing to the high level of planning and specialized training, they pick their spot nicely to get a better grip on the situation. While on the top floor, they wait for the news to spread (you don't need to wait for long, really!!) through the news channels. After a short while, the place is surrounded by police and para military forces who are eagerly waiting for the terrorists to place their demands. And here it comes. One of them broadcasts a message using his Blackberry (Yes, they got it.) to convey their stand -

"We have held all the guests of this hotel as hostages. We dont want any of you to move into the hotel or the consequences will be unfavourable. On one condition, these hostages will be released. We want you to release all the Mujahiddins (I sometimes wonder what this means exactly.) under arrest in India. You will also provide us safe transportation out of the country. Failing to do so will cost you a lot of lives. Of your countrymen as well as others. I make our intentions clear. Death is the penalty. No Mercy!!"

OK. Lets hear some people talk on the cameras about this:

Chief Minister's response: "We are concerned about the lives of our citizens and guests. This is an emergency (People would never have known this had he not said it). We are considering their demands."

Prime Minister's response: "This response is assisted by foreign help (You know who!). They will face serious consequences if they do not explain their stand (He really did say that)."

Defence Minister's response: "Calls have been traced to Karachi. We know Pakistan is involved in these attacks. (Oh my God! That's a discovery)."

Commissioner's response: "We are trying our best."

Intelligence agencies' response: "We had informed the government of a possible attack SIX months ago (Again, this is not made up)."

On-site police officer's response: "We cannot take any action until the higher authorities finish negotiation with the terrorists."

America's response: "How much?"

Army's response: "Forgiving the terrorists for what they did is God's decision. Fixing their appointment with God is our job (Credits - Suhani's status message). They have already made it clear - No Mercy. No mercy it is!" (I salute.)

Pakistan's response (not on camera): "Let us all pay a tribute to the selfless service offered by our fighters (read as.. Terrorists)."

Another terrorist's response: "Insha Allah!!"

My response: "Lets just say - WTF!!"

Your response - ?? (comments please)

  1. Oh you missed these..

R R Patil's Response : "Yeh Mumbai pe nahin, yeh poore desh par hamla hai..!!" (lol..)

    and
L K Advani : "Abhi main comment nahin kar sakta hoon. Pehle main hospital aur site pe jaoonga, to get the feel of the situation...!!" ( as if hearing about it didn't give him the grasp of its seriousness )

  2. Hmm, did you catch one politician who was trapped in the Taj and was finally rescued?

He was asked how it was and what he felt like?
He's like: Haan, hamein phone aaya ki darwaaja dhang se band kar lein. Hamne kar liya. Kuch der mein TV band ho gaya. Araam se 3-4 ghante mein hamne Laptop par election ka saara kaam bhi kar liya.

BTW, Mujahid (مجاهد) is one involved in Jihad or fighting a war/struggling. Mujahideen (مجاهدين) is the plural.

  3. Sorry Mehul I dont agree with you....
You see anti governmental feelings and ideas are very easy to develop and fuel and make other people agree with you...
but actually coming to think bout it just put yourself in their place and find out would you have been able to do anything???
If you were one of those people who ffrequently go to five star hotels then you wud have been more than frustrated with the security if it was tight..
A person cant keep his business going if he treats all the people coming as terrorist suspects...
and there are so many people coming everyday, everytime .. How can you control???
And ya who wud have thought that they will attack a hotel and not some govt building??
I m telling you they are here to spread chaos thats it...
its just thet this time they targetted a hotel..
Next time they will go on streets and kill indiscriminately... Then wat?? wat will you do??? wat will you say??
    ban the cars ?? huh??

Well its easy to critisize the words of politicians and those in power... just tell me wat will you have said???
Well you are in INSYNC, you may know how easy it is to critisize the dancing couple on the stage ...
To actuaaly bear the pressure of stage is the applaudable thing....

Well ok ok i dont wanna fite...

  4. Agreed mogli but I understand mehul you too are right to a a great extent. Politicians are a hell of a crap. MOGLI, it is not about what would you have done, you do not know. Politicians have this power and it is their duty to control situations like this rather than do political drama.

Besides, ya the situation was really had and pathetic. I won't lie to say more.
I mean how could someone just kill 100 people like that ?

  6. Yes, Vipul, I know this is chaotic. But, its not just about the on-spot security. This thing was well planned. The NSG commandos said that the terrorist knew everything about the hotel. They move with ease and had taken all strategic positions before the commandos could. They were well trained and had AK 47(thts not cheap or even easy to operate). ... Read MoreThey came by their own boat sea route near gateway of India (tht is sumthing you can check and actually Navy should). The govt.. they KNOW tht it was pakistan. We'll talk and worst comes worst we wont talk. Thts all the action we have seen in the past and we will. I can stand by the gove if i say tht had i been thr i wud have done the same. But if they cant do nething better.. thn what the hell.. u wud make any damn person the PM .. doesnt tht matter?? Yes we'll be at peace and not attack pakistan like US did on afghanistan. Thts fair.. we wont take innocent lives..Yes, Vipul, I know this is chaotic. But, its not just about the on-spot security. This thing was well planned. 7. About the security again.. i agree they are doing business and they dont check everyone.. also explains why IIT sucks at security.. but in case of emergency situations they dont have nything to fight.. they dont have weapons.. no training.. no body armour.. no immediate support strategy.. no evacuation plan (hotels have tht even if they are doing business).. NOTHING.

  8. I so totally agree MJ... And I think that simply the fact that there are foreigners staying at those hotels make all the good hotels a target.. because every single hit would affect India's relationships with other countries.. Why would they protect us when the Indian government can't protect their citizens who are visiting India??
And honestly, having the label for 'the most peaceful country' is NOT helping the Indian citizens right now.. What's the use of having such an Army when the government can't have the country stand up and fight for itself??

  9. Yeah Garima you are right............but the problem cannot end until our national leaders have guts to stand against terrorist and take strong step against Pakistan and China...................India's map has changed a lot because a lot of land has been given to China and Pakistan.................and still Pakistan is sending terrorist in our country.
I think that these terrorists are much more armed and well trained than police officers of India.
Also, if you want to have peace..........you have to have security and security check.............you can not expect to have peaceful secure life without any security check for anyone and without loosing a bit of privacy.

  10. And Vipul.....we are not on stage but the people who are on stage.... have been sent by us as our representatives.and as leaders...we have sent them there to perform ...not to stand in corner and look at the crowd...the terrorist were hereto kill not less than 5000 people......but it was because of our armed forces that they were not able to kill only around 200....what are those people on stage doing.....????......ARE THEY WAITING FOR 5000 PEOPLE TO GET KILLED BEFORE REACTING?????....they had all the information six months in advance still they could not protect Mumbai.......such people on stage have to be condemned......they are there on stage to perform......if they can not perform then they should get down.

  11. Lets see what I understood from the conversation above.

Mehul in his post blamed the political leaders for saying meaningless things. He ridiculed them by the way he presented their quotes.

Aditya and Antariksh added a few more things to the already-humorous compilation of Mehul.

Mowgli felt that Mehul was being hard on the government. He also felt that the security measures couldn't be tightened without loosing convenience.

Pranjal agreed with both Mowgli and Mehul, but he agreed with Mehul more (It reminds me of that witty one liner, everyone is equal but some people are more equal than others, or something like that).

Mehul then said that the act was very well planned and that the authorities should've done more than they did.

Garima...well, lets just say, she agreed with Mehul.

Soumya agreed with Garima and said that India should take strong steps (fight a war, maybe) towards Pakistan and China.

Soumya further added that the politicians should step down (so that we elect a new bunch of them).

    Sankalp added his i-am-so-cool-and-I-think-all-you-people-suck comment.

Aren't these the things that we typically do? Someone blames the government. Someone defends it. Someone makes fun of the whole issue. Aren't these the things that the leaders and the opposition and the media does?

    Aren't they?
